ALAN

Hey Everyone!

So, it's been a while, sorry about that! I've been teaching myself how to airbrush a bit. Finding new mediums and techniques to work with have always interested me, so I decided to dedicate most of my time to perfecting airbrushing for now:)
Some exciting news!.... I'm showing my very first piece at Kresge Cafe at Oakland University!!! It's my cake picture that's posted below:) (It's a study from my Beginning Painting Class). Oil on pre-stretched canvas that was later matted and framed. Soooooo exciting! It'll be up by next week :) :)

Today however, I was invited by my first art teacher, Halyna Cysaruk,  to do some studies of a male model with her and her class. His name is Alan and was one of the most aspiring people I have ever met in my entire life. Alan, is the definition of SURVIVOR. He was diagnosed with cancer when he was 23, and the doctors gave him six weeks to live! Thirty years later, I had the privilege to sketch this cheerful soul! To put things into an even larger perspective, Alan just woke up from a two week coma this past December!!!!! Needless to say I felt blessed to be in his presence and wanted to do my absolute best at sketching him. Although having a stern upper lip, Alan had such a sense of joy and peace in his eyes, he is kind, enthusiastic, and just all around an absolutely amazing man. My teacher told me that Alan loved to dress up and always looked so handsome in nice attire and a hat- I was very pleased to see that she was not exaggerating :)  Today was a very very very good day...Alan, you're in my prayers and it was an absolute privilege/ pleasure to meet you today!

Quickies

Today was a fun filled day at the dentist:) No cavities at least haha. Here's what I starred at for 40min. I felt like I was in a horror movie. Just expressions though. Took me ten minutes, charcoal sticks on drawing paper and an putty eraser. Then I sketched my kitty for about 30 seconds -she keeps moving:) I'm also starting some sketches for a much larger scale project after this post. Trying to get better at updating constantly haha

Cheers!

Other Side of Things

Half side magazine image, other half colored pencils. It took me a hot minute to figure out how to layer the skin coloring while looking like it came from a magazine. Frustrating, but learned a lot, which makes it worthwhile for me! The obvious coloring is off due to different paper and mediums- one being a magazine, the other a drawn image, but from a short distance it blends together...so I'm relatively happy:)  Squint a little and hopefully you'll see a bit of a blend going haha.  Planning on to continue working on it, so we'll see what happens. So, after a few days of working on this, here's what I got...

Reroute...

Hello everyone!

So, I did not forget to post the other day, just came about a crazy project that is going to take me a little more time. I saw my old art teacher the other day, her name is Halyna Cisaruk-love her to death!!! So, anyways, she had a class going and they were starting colored pencil. The assignment was to match the other half of a face from a magazine. Me, loving a challenge, asked her if I could do one too...needless to say it has been driving me crazy! I only finished about 1/5 of it thus far, but I'm giving myself until next week Thursday (I'm modeling for her class then:) to finish it. So, I will be working on it, hopefully finishing it. (Tomorrow is a big day moving my sister to her new apartment for Medical school:) So, I may not be posting daily...but you will see the results on Thursday, promise! Until then, let me leave ya with a passage I love...

"Ships at a distance have every man's wish on board. For some they come with the tide, For others they sail forever on the horizon, never out of sight, never landing until the watcher turns his eyes away in resignation, his dreams mocked to death by time. That is the life of men.--
Now, women forget those things they don't want to remember, and remember everything they don't want to forget. The dream is the truth. They act and do things accordingly."

JUNE 1st BABY!

Alrighty, so it's finally June 1st! I've been having a lot of ideas brewing in my mind for months and when the time to work finally comes, I stare, and have no clue where to begin haha. So, for today I decided to ease myself into the idea of experimenting, it's a simple experiment, but clammed my racing mind.

So...what I did was quite simple. Just playing with my mind and expression with a musical stimulus. Started out with about 15min of Norah Jones and then jumped into about 10 min of AFI (shut your mouth and open your eyes and very proud of ya). Went back to a min of Norah and then Outlawz came on for a song.  I drew on Durladar and smeared a bit of marker when wet. While the experiment loosened me up a little, it was whatever. However,  I found the creations that light had on the Durladar a lot more intriguing and worth further experimentation. Needless to say, as usual, I stumbled upon something of more intrigue than the initial intention =) Gave me a few ideas for a larger scale project...

Till next time!
Cheers

The Challenge...

Hey Everyone!

Welcome to my BLOG! So, I created this page just to keep myself on track with my art practice, future travels, and to just keep in touch with whoever is interested in what I'm up to:) I find that it's easy for me to produce massive amounts of work in school, but I lack in the exploration of my technique on my own time without the mindset of it being a precious "finished" piece...so...

Challenge: To Create A Consistent Stamina and Exploration of My Work Process-                    To  Create Something: (anything from a painting, sculpture, print, jewelry, poem, sketch... or my favorite; edible delicacies:)
Everyday, from June 1st- September 1st...
(and hopefully by the end of this the flow will come naturally)
If I complete the challenge, I'm going to reward myself...not sure with what at the moment, but it's happening!
If there happens to be a day that I fall short, I double up for the next day...since in the end, I'm only cheating myself and my growth of self expression.

So once again, welcome everyone and I hope you enjoy this journey with me:)
